NCsoft’s latest MMORPGS Blade and Soul and Guild Wars 2 console versions developement confirmed!

As Kim Taek Jin, CEO of the Korea-based NCsoft, disclosed in the conference call that was held in the morning of Feb. 9, 2010, the console versions of Blade and Soul and Guild Wars 2 are currently undergoing smooth development, but this doesn’t mean the company already has related selling plans. Kim Taek Jin’s such statement is quite different from what he said in the conference call held in Feb 2009. “We won’t make any decision before getting confidence about the development of the console versions”. According to Kim Taek Jin, the platforms on which games are based are changing rapidly nowadays. The current emphasis is on making players interested in NCsoft’s games no matter on the platform of consolecellphonesmart phone or something else. Meanwhile, Mr. Kim is unable to avoid being asked whether to sell console games independently.

In terms of the schedule for the new MMO projects, Mr. Kim confirmed that, Blade and Soul and Guild Wars 2 would be commercially served in the year 2011 and the former would start its closed beta in the first half of 2010. Apart from this, it’s also confirmed that Aion 2.0 will be updated in the first half of this year.

Mr. Kim also expressed his opinion about the cellphone platform and 3D technology. From his point of view, the game’s cellphone platform is of vital importance and enjoys a strategic position in the market. As for the problem whether the 3D technology shall be applied to games, Mr. Kim said that he had seen the movie Avatar with great interest and whether such technology could be realized in games still had to undergo necessary researches. After all, there’re lots of people who feel dizzy before 3D movies. Thus, before games which usually take players a long time adopt the 3D technology, more problems have to be solved first. Mr. Kim’s opinion, in some degrees, shows that he doesn’t take a positive attitude toward the application of 3D technology in games.
